Dezember.

Snow is falling, Santa is coming!

The 6th of December is a big holiday for children. The waiting the white beard man, who gives them candy, chocolate and other sweet things. Santa is coming every year, and he have serious traditions in Hungary.

But who Santa is?

We know him as the person who divides gifts in red clothes to the children, but if your room is messy or your shoe is not cleaned, you don’t get presents.
According to the modern Hungarian folk tradition, he comes on the 5th of December in the night, or in the dawn of the 6th. Santa Claus or as hungarians call him „Mikulás“ or „Télapó“ is visits the children, and if they acted well in last year he give them a small gift.

In the old days, the tradtional celebration in cities and villages was a masked game on Miklós Day. But in the 18. century they banned the original tradition called “ Miklósolás“ because in this old folk tradition means so much pain and frightened to people. The reason for the ban was the scare of the children, because not the well-known, cheerful, Mikulás walked from house to house, but a fearsome, black-eyed, chain-staring „Miklós Láncos“ who was both rewarded and punished. Maybe he was the origin of the Krampus.

The Santa we know is traveled by night, and he gave us presents in to our shoes and boots. Nowadays the parents told their kids, that Santa is live in Lapland, and he made gifts everyday. After this he replenishes his reindeers which fly above the houses, and stop every childs bedroom. And they gave all the expected gifts on time.

What is he carrying?

Well not just sweets, he has apples, peanunt and every good things. But he don’t forget the bad kids as well. He gave them rod, or coal. But this is just a symbol.
So, if you were good, and clean your shoe, he will visit you in the night. Just watch!

Hull a hó, jön a Télapó!

December hatodika nagy ünnep a gyerekek számára.

Mi talállható a zsákjában?
